PELES EMPIRE

Peles Empire is a collaborative work by Katharina Stoever and Barbara Wolff. The project borrows its name from the Romanian castle Peles, built between 1893 and 1913. The rooms of the castle copy different architectural styles of the past centuries, combining for example Art Deco, Orientalism, Renaissance and Rococo. The creators of this castle opposed any current design trend by establishing an almost ironic representation of the “ideal” castle.

Stoever and Wolff have reproduced ten rooms of the castle since 2005. The project has existed in Frankfurt, Los Angeles and London and has organized over 30 exhibitions within these spaces.

Peles Empire is currently running two mirroring spaces, where invited artists show their work. Stoever and Wolff are also working on the 3D interpretation of the 2D reproduction of the castle and 2D transformations of 3D objects within the reproduced imagery.
